The aim of the Centre is to promote economic research on the Welfare State and on the various models around the world for the achievement of social protection and public support and progress in collective well-being, paying particular attention to issues raised by the increasing globalisation of the economy. The following activities have this aim in mind:

a) the autonomous implementation of research projects
b) the promotion of scientific meetings, seminars, conventions, and individual and collective publications
c) co-operation and exchanges between related international research centres
d) the making available of results from research carried out by members on subjects of interest to the Centre itself
e) helping create a comprehensive library and specialised data-bases
f) directly helping in the publication of periodical reports

In order to carry out the above activities, the Centre can stipulate specific conventions on either public or private subjects, granting or promoting, according to article 91 of the D.P.R. 382/80, can further inter-university research centres with related or complementary activities, can concern itself with questions of national interests, according to article 65 of the D.P.R. 382/80, taking part in projects financed by the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (National Research Board).
